Similarly, swimmers signing up for the Spring/Summer Competitive Programs, must participate in the Wyoming Summer Championships in Gillette, WY, if qualified (usually the third weekend in July). Swimmers are expected to compete in all home meets, if held, and at least two away meets during the during the Spring/Summer season.

--Fall/Winter Session:  Sept. 2 - February 28

The focus of the Beginner Competitive Practice for swimmers 10 and Under is 70% Technique and 30% learning to race. Swimmers in this group will learn racing starts, open turns, flip turns, streamline and proper stroke technique starting with freestyle and backstroke and progressing to legal butterfly and breaststroke.

The focus for Swimmers in the Intermediate Competitive Program who are 11 and older is 50-60% Technique and 40-50% strength and endurance through increased yardage.  Practice will be between 3,500 to 5,500 yards depending. They will build their strength and endurance in the water.  Swimmers will also learn many life skills: listening, following directions, being prepared, setting goals, respecting teammates, giving 100 % effort on tasks, to name a few.  They will learn to master all 4 strokes.

Sign up for the Advanced Competitive Group is by invitation of the coach only.  Swimmers who have not previously participated with JH Stingrays may inquire by emailing the coaching staff at jhstingraycoach@gmail.com or the Board at jhstingrayboard@gmail.com to discuss placement, which may require a trial practice.

Pre-Competitive -- T, Th  (1 hour) - practice start times vary
--Fall Session: TBD
--Winter Session:  TBD
--Spring Session:  TBD

All swimmers must be able to swim one length (25Yards) of the pool unassisted.  Some of the swimmers in this group may have already participated in meets but need to refine their skills.

The main focus of the Pre-Competitive Program is to introduce swimmers to proper stroke technique and build their ability and confidence in the water.  Swimmers will also learn many life skills: listening, following directions, being prepared, setting goals, respecting teammates, giving 100 % effort on tasks, to name a few.

Competition in swim meets is encouraged but not immediately required of swimmers in this group.  Each session, Pre-Competitive swimmers will be building towards participation in a home swim meet, and the cost of the swim meet entry will be included in the program fees.  All swimmers must participate in the event by competing or attending and cheering on their teammates.  We strongly encourage new swimmers to register for at least one competitive event.  Competition through games such as Red Light-Green Light and relays at practice will hopefully lead to the swimmer being comfortable and proficient enough to participate in home swim meets and nearby meets in Pinedale and Idaho Falls.
