Pinedale Polar Bear Plunge Meet Dec 14

Sign-up for the Pinedale Polar Bear Plunge is now open in your ActiveWorks swimportal.

Deadline is December 3.

Last weekend, some of our swimmers attended the Top 5 weekend events in Casper, WY last weekend and participated in a clinic conducted by Rebecca Soni, Gold Medalist and World Record Setter.

There are numerous articles about Rebecca in the Swimmer's Corner of this blog.

In one interview Rebecca was asked:
From heart surgery to a back injury, you’ve experienced a few setbacks. How did you overcome these obstacles and what advice would you give to swimmers who are experiencing challenges in their swimming training or career?
Rebecca responded: We all have our own challenges. You can choose to focus on the obstacle and the struggle, or focus on getting better and overcoming it. I have never allowed myself to be defined by any physical ailments. Instead, I chose to focus on my goals and be the swimmer that I believed I was or could be.
Something for all of us to think about.

JH Stingrays Pre-Competitive Session 2 – Registration for New Families

Pre-Competitive Session 2 registration will be available for all new families on Wednesday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. MT.  A registration link will be posted to the home page as well as under the Registration tab at that time.  Your registration cost includes participation in the Sweetheart In The Tetons swim meet in Jackson Hole on February 8-9.

Pre-Competitive Session 2 runs from December 2 through February 9.  Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:15 p.m. through January 23.  The final two weeks of practice will be from 5:30-6:15 p.m.  A calendar of practice times can be found here.

A mandatory swim test and parent meeting for all new swimmers will be held at the Rec Center lap pool on Tuesday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m.  The swim test will be for lane placement, not to see how well swimmers swim. Lane placement will depend on ability and endurance. Please report to Coach Cindy at the starter end, near the Lifeguard's room. Bring a water bottle, wear swim goggles, and long hair must be tied back, or in a swim cap. Sign in at the front desk on the 'Stingray's' sheet. You must have all registration completed online in order to participate.

Space for Session 2 is very limited. You will be expected to complete the entire Session, and to participate in the swim meet, if only for one event, or to cheer on the team. Parent volunteer participation is mandatory for the swim meet as well.  Volunteer opportunities will be circulated in advance of the meet.  For a more detailed description of pre-competitive group expectations, please visit the blogspot tab here.

Fall in the Hole -- Volunteers Needed

JH Stingrays families!

Thank you to all of those families who have already signed up to help with our Fall in the Hole meet.

For those who have not yet had a chance to sign up, remember that no experience is necessary.  Being a timer is THE best way to cheer on your swimmers, and all of the concessions positions will be staffed with enough people to allow you to rotate out to watch your swimmer's events.  You won't miss a race!

If you have not yet signed up, please do so.  Just go to swimportal.Active.com and sign in using the email and password you created when you registered your swimmer.  Look for the Volunteering link on the right-hand side of the screen and click the link for "Fall in the Hole 2019" to sign up.

We can't make this meet happen without you!

How to enter a Meet via Active

The Board purchased ActiveWorks because the club is growing and it is too time consuming to do things the way they have been done in the past.

All future sign-ups: USA Registrations, practice groups and meet entries and meet tasks for parents will be done via Active

There was some confusion regarding the email that was automatically produced by Active regarding the Spook Splash Meets and some parents did not recognize the entity from which it came.

1) How to enter future meets:
You will receive an email like the one below

From: Active Support (No Reply) <no-reply@active.com>
Date: mm/dd/yy
Subject: You are invited to participate in the meet 2019 Idaho Falls Spook Splash

We are now accepting entries for this upcoming meet 2019 Idaho Falls Spook Splash, Please
log into your Swim Manager portal and indicate whether you plan to attend..... In addition, you may select......

It then gives you a link personalized for your account so that you can enter your swimmers in the meet

2) As a reminder:
Our calendar of meets along with much more info can be found on the blogspot.  jhstingrays.blogspot.com
You MUST enter your email address in the box on the top right corner of the blog.
After you enter your email and click on submit you will receive an immediate notice from feedburner to verify that you are entered and are not a robot.

Once your email is entered into the box on the blog you will automatically receive a notice in your email every time anything new is posted.

If you do not enter your email address you will not receive email notices.

Sign-Up for Both Spook Splash Meets Closes this Monday, October 16 at 6PM

In the Sept 22 Board Meeting Minutes  the Board discussed giving swimmers two options for the Spook Splash given that the Idaho Falls meet is generally for younger swimmers and the Lander meet, which falls on the same day, will be more competitive for other swimmers."

The Lander Spook Splash Meet will be held on Oct 25,26,27.  Swimmers may compete on 1, 2, or all 3 days.  Invitations to sign-up for this meet were sent via email from Active Support on October 7 to swimmers who have qualified for WY Championships in the past and some new swimmers in the Intermediate Competitive Group for swimmers 11 &Over. This meet will present challenges for our experienced swimmers and a great opportunity to see their competitors from other Wyoming teams since our ultimate goal is to achieve Qualifying times and attend in the WY Championship meets and higher level USA Swimming meets.  We encourage those who were invited to sign-up for the Lander meet to go to Lander.  However, if you cannot attend the Lander meet for logistical or other reasons, you may sign-up through your swim portal for the Idaho Falls Meet. You can be a supportive teammate and role model for our newer swimmers

Younger and less experienced swimmers are encouraged to go to the Idaho Falls Meet, Saturday, Oct 26. An invitation to sign-up for the Idaho Spook Splash was sent to all JHSR swimmers from Active Support on Saturday Oct 12.  This email contains your personal Swimportal link that you need to use to sign-up for the meet.

Sign –Ups for both Spook Splash meets close at 6PM this coming Monday, October 14.

JHSR will have coaches at both meets.

JH Stingrays Fall Registration - Opens Saturday, August 17 at 8:00 a.m. MT

Welcome to the JH Stingrays!!

This year we have upgraded our registration! We will be doing all registrations online! This includes all meets and functions throughout the year. Please read through this post for important information.

Registration will be live for all new families on Saturday, August 17 at 8:00 a.m. MT.  A registration link will be posted on the home page as well as under the Registration tab at that time.

Do not send any paperwork or money to the 'black box' at the pool - your registration will not become active this way anymore. Please do not save your place in line with an email, as was done in the past. The registrations will be first come, and also allow for a wait list.

Competitive Group:  All Swimmers that had been invited to be a part of the Competitive Swim Group this past Spring may register in the same group for Competitive Session 1, Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Please note this Session will go until Winter State. Times for practice will change to an earlier time after JHHS Swimming's season is complete.  This Session will begin Wednesday Sept 4, and practice will be M, W, F (Beginner/Intermediate) and M, T, W, Th, F (Advanced).  We are not allowing any new swimmers to join this group. A swimmer may be invited by Coach Cindy to become Competitive after the swimmer has completed the first Session of Pre-Competitive. Session 2 will begin just after Winter State and go to Summer State, with times again changing in the summer to early mornings.

Pre-Competitive and New Swimmers:  Practice will be held on Tuesday and Thursday.  There is a mandatory swim test and parent meeting for all new swimmers to the program on Thursday Sept 5 @ 6 pm at the Rec Center. The swim test will be for lane placement, not to see how well swimmers swim. Lane placement will depend on ability and endurance. The swim test will be at the lap pool. Please report to Coach Cindy at the starter end, near the Lifeguard's room. Bring a water bottle, wear swim goggles, and long hair must be tied back, or in a swim cap. Sign in at the front desk on the 'Stingray's' sheet. Parents will attend a mandatory meeting on the outdoor patio area of the Rec Center at 6 pm. You must have all registration completed online in order to participate. Space is very limited. You will be expected to complete the Session all the way to the end, and to have your child participate in the swim meet, if only for one event, or to cheer on their teammates.  Session 2 and 3 dates are on the blog site for your future planning, but cannot be registered until the week prior to start. Please know that failure to complete the session will jeopardize your swimmer's chance to gain access to future Sessions.

For returning swimmers in the Pre-Competitive program, there is no Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced anymore. This session will also include your entry to Fall in the Hole swim meet. This Session is to learn teamwork, refine your strokes, and prepare for the Fall in the Hole Swim Meet. Please complete all registrations online and be ready for the first day of practice on Tuesday, September 10. Remember to bring your water bottles!

For more information on the expectations for the Competitive and Pre-Competitive Practice Groups, please visit the 2019-2020 Practice Groups tab on this blog.

ALL FAMILIES / Old Bill's: This year we are including the cost of your past 'Old Bill's donations' to the club in this year's membership dues. We still encourage you to donate to Old Bill's on behalf of the JH Stingrays. We also encourage you to ask your friends, family and businesses to donate on behalf of the Stingrays.

USA Registrations:  You will pay this fee online with your registration. Please choose the 'Year round' for all competitive swimmers. Those new to the program may choose 'Flex' and upgrade later. Only choose 'Outreach' if you qualify for TCSD free/reduced school lunch.

The registration site will save all your information for future functions. If you have an 'Active' account already for another sport, the system will recognize you by your email, and pre-populate your information. If you are having any difficulty with registering, please email JHStingrayboard@gmail.com.

There are programs available to assist with costs. One 22 and Boundless are available to those that qualify. Email the board for more details.

Thank you! Good Luck this Season and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Stingrays!!
